The Closed System Method we use

The closed system method of colon hydrotherapy is a professionally administered treatment using a TGA approved device to support safe, comfortable and effective colon hydrotherapy.

The key features of a closed system colonic are its control and monitoring by a certified therapist who may adjust the temperature and flow for individual comfort. Equally important is the machine's highly sensitive water flow and temperature controls, providing precision accuracy and superior safety.

How colonics fit into a broader gut health approach

Colonics are just one part of supporting your gut. When combined with informed habits, lifestyle adjustments, and guidance around digestion, they can help you build awareness of your body’s patterns and support long-term digestive function.

At Vitality Flow, we integrate colon hydrotherapy with:

  • Digestive education: Understanding how your gut works and what it needs.

  • Lifestyle and habit support: Practical guidance to help you make changes that stick.

  • Nervous system considerations: Stress, sleep, and daily rhythms influence digestion, these are factored into every plan.

  • Collaboration with other practitioners: When appropriate, we work alongside other healthcare providers to ensure care is safe and complementary.

This approach ensures colonics are not just a treatment, but part of a holistic framework to support your gut and digestive health in a sustainable, practical way.

What happens during a
colonic session:

At the time of booking, you will complete a health questionnaire. This gives your practitioner an overview of your health history and helps make the session more personalised. When you arrive, your practitioner will take the time to discuss your goals, answer your questions, and guide you through the process so you feel informed and comfortable.

Your treatment room is private and designed for comfort, with soft lighting, calming music, and ensuite facilities so you feel relaxed from the moment you walk in. Before the session begins, you’ll have private time to empty your bladder, undress from the waist down, and make yourself comfortable on the treatment table with a towel to cover your lower body.

Once you’re ready, your practitioner will insert the lubricated speculum into the rectum and connect the surgical A-grade plastic tubing. The session usually begins with a gentle belly massage to help relax the colon muscles before any water is introduced.

Throughout the session, warm, filtered water is introduced slowly and released through the closed system. All waste and gas are carried away through the tubing and into the plumbing, with no mess or smell. Your practitioner stays with you the entire time, guiding each stage and using supportive techniques such as simple breathing cues, gentle massage, reflexology, or acupressure depending on what feels right for you.

Most clients find the experience relaxing and gentle, but everyone’s body responds differently. You may feel sensations of release or movement; occasional discomfort can occur due to gas, tension, or tightness, and your practitioner will adjust the process to keep you as comfortable as possible.

At the end of the session, you’ll have time to use the toilet privately. When you’re finished, you’ll be offered a probiotic and electrolyte drink to support your body’s balance after treatment.

Contraindications and when Colon Hydrotherapy is not appropriate

While colon hydrotherapy can be a supportive therapy for many people, there are times when it is not appropriate, or when extra care and assessment are required.

Some health conditions mean we cannot proceed with treatment at all. Others may require careful timing, or that we wait until an acute phase has passed. We approach this with due diligence and respect for your individual health history.

If you are unsure whether colon hydrotherapy is suitable for you, we encourage you to contact us before booking so we can discuss your circumstances openly.

Colonics are not appropriate if you have:

  • Pregnancy or suspected pregnancy

  • Cancer of the colon or gastrointestinal tract

  • Carcinoma of the rectum

  • Intestinal perforation

  • Renal insufficiency

  • Strangulated abdominal or inguinal hernias

  • Acute diverticulitis

  • Acute Crohn’s disease

  • Ulcerative colitis

  • Rectal or abdominal tumours

  • Recent heart attack or significant heart disease

  • Congestive heart failure

  • Vascular aneurysm

  • Severe, uncontrolled anaemia

Colonics may require medical clearance, careful assessment, or may not be appropriate during acute phases if you have:

  • Recent abdominal, colon, or rectal surgery

  • Recent history of gastrointestinal or rectal bleeding

  • Severe haemorrhoids, fissures, or fistula

  • Uncontrolled hypertension

  • Liver disease

  • History of seizures, epilepsy, or certain neurological conditions

  • General debilitation or complex medical history

  • Acute abdominal pain (this always requires clarification before treatment)

Our intention is never to exclude unnecessarily, but to ensure that any care provided is appropriate, considered, and aligned with your overall health and wellbeing.
